Description

This early 1950s hand-painted fringed shawl features swirling designs in a rainbow of colors and spiral-shaped suns or stars on the blue-gray, lightweight wool fabric. The painted design is further accented by tiny, hand-sewn red and blue sequins scattered over the entire surface of the shawl. 5-inch long, hand-knotted magenta wool yarn fringe finishes the edge of the shawl’s triangular hem. Probably made in Mexico for export, the shawl is unlined. The threads used to attach the sequined trim are therefore visible on its underside (see photos). The worsted wool is fine enough to be comfortable for all but the hottest weather. This dramatic, fringed wool evening wrap or shawl is in excellent condition, with no issues to note. It is wide enough to tie in front on a smaller size (as shown), or will fit most, draped over the shoulders.

Size: fits most.
