Description
This rather unique and terribly chic early 1960s tall-crowned hat is made of shiny, luxurious Italian black fur felt. The high-crowned toque is a rounded oval, like 2/3 of an eggshell, but with 4 indentations shaped into its crown. These indentations have been blocked into the felt, and then secured with 4 long stitches on the underside of the crown. A decorative band in a more matte black felt encircles the hat about halfway down the crown, finished with 2 notched ends. The hat’s bright turquoise, inner grosgrain band has some light soiling form the original owner’s makeup. I have tried to remove it, but was not completely successful. It will not be seen when it is worn. The hat is in very good condition, with no other issues to note. The pearl and rhinestone hatpin that came to me with the hat is included, as shown in the photos. This dramatic, tall-crowned, sculptural 1960s ladies’ hat will not pull down low on the head unless it is too large for you; it is designed to sit up tall and towards the back of the head, as seen in my photos.
