Description
This deadstock 1950s day dress in royal/purple-toned dark blue has a cute front bow trimming its fitted bodice. Other bodice features include a round, notched neckline, short cuffed sleeves, and decorative buttons trim above a wide waist panel. The straight skirt has small darts below the waist seam, to add a bit of fullness to the hip area. A small kick pleat finishes the skirt hem in back. The lightweight, slub-textured rayon fabric has a smooth satin back. The dress is unlined, and fastens with a metal zipper in the side seam. A self-fabric belt cinches the fitted waist. There is a single slash pocket at the right side seam. As is often the case with dark blue textiles of this era, the royal blue fabric has age-faded to have a subtly purple tone all over, with more noticeable fading where it was exposed to more light across the top of both shoulders, and down the outside of the right sleeve (see photos). This is very visible under my bright photo lighting, but will be somewhat less visible in normal daylight—even less so in low lighting! This hourglass-style 1950s dress is in very good condition, unworn and freshly dry cleaned. Although missing its original paper hangtags, the dress came to me with a batch of other deadstock vintage (mostly 1950s-70s clothing) that was unsold stock from a small shop, closed decades ago. The back of the belt is labeled vintage size 18, or approximately a modern medium (see measurements for more size details).
