Description
This mini tilt hat (or fascinator, as we would call it now) probably dates to the late 1940s. I suspect that it was created by at home, with the red, purple, and blue flowers and large pale blue rose trim designed to match a specific dress or outfit. The floral trim is hand-sewn onto a commercially made icy blue straw base or form, with a pale blue rayon taffeta backing. You can pin this fascinator hat at a jaunty angle on the head as shown—perfect for a spring or summer wedding or garden party look! The hat’s floral trim shows some moderate age and wear from storage: the flower stems are unfurled a bit, and the edges of the flower petals are slightly frayed. It is in very good condition; these minor issues are unlikely to be noticed when this sweet little hat is worn.
