Description

This small, rose-trimmed 1940s tilt hat is made of navy blue straw so dark that it appears black in all but the brightest lighting. The flat brim and shallow crown resemble a straw boater hat, but shrunken down to doll hat size. A narrow band of rayon velvet ribbon in moss green encircles the crown. The 2 roses, one in lipstick red and one in cream, are both dotted with tiny, sparkling rhinestones that are glued onto their petals. The navy blue straw has shiny finish, and is quite stiff, rather than flexible, so it will keep its shape nicely when worn. You will want a hatpin or two to help keep this hat on your head, since the hat’s crown is far to small and shallow to stay in place on its own. The hat is unlined aside from a wide inner band of navy grosgrain ribbon. It could be worn tilted forward as shown, or on the back of the head, for a more schoolgirl appearance. In very good condition, this 1940s straw hat shows a bit of wear to the edges of the fabric flower petals, and a a small amount of make-up discoloration to the inner grosgrain band (See close-up photos).
