Description
This made in France, navy blue fur felt ladies’ late 1930s hat in a fedora style has a tall, tapered and indented crown and a soft, unwired brim. The crown and brim are both very flexible, to pinch and shape as you prefer. The brim is widest at the center front and narrowest at the center back. The hat is more of a tilt style than a hat that pulls down low, as evidenced by the 21-inch inner circumference measurement. I believe that it should be worn as shown, tilted forward a bit on the head. The wide blue grosgrain ribbon hatband has a bow at the center back, with a very faint mark on one of its ends. The inner grosgrain band is a bit discolored from age, more purple in tone than the hat itself, with some minor soiling from makeup on it that will not be visible when the hat is worn. The maker’s label is also a bit discolored. In very good condition, this simply chic, true vintage 1930s hat has no other issues to note. The original owner was a Frenchwoman who later ended up as a university professor here in the US. She must have saved this fedora-style tilt hat from her youth—a cherished possession!
