Description
A lipstick red straw 1950s hat with navy blue piping trim, this cutie has a single prong-set rhinestone finishing its velvet topknot! This type of small hat would have been called a “coolie” or “mandarin” style in the 50s. I would describe it as a pillbox with a flat-sided crown that becomes rounded as it approaches the soft point at its center, where the knot is attached. It also reminds me of a sailor hat, with its flat lower section, below the wide velvet piping trim. It is designed to sit at the back of the head as shown, although you could tilt it more forward if you prefer. The red straw crown is unlined with a navy grosgrain ribbon inner band. This sassy spring or summer 1950s straw hat is in excellent condition, with no issues to note.
