Description
A late 1950s or early 1960s 2-piece in black wool knit by Italian knitwear designer Laura Aponte, this rose-embroidered cardigan and cap sleeve sweater set is something special! From the detailed embroidery (including thorns on the pink roses!), to the trompe l’oeil belt at the waist of the sweater, to the cute bows trimming both the waist of the sweater and the right breast of the cardigan, to the fuzzy fringe trimming the edges of the cardigan and its deeply cuffed sleeves, you can see the artistry that went into its making. High-end designer quality at an attainable price is one of the many things that makes true vintage items so appealing, in my opinion! The medium-weight, double-knit wool cardigan has a single hook fastener at the round neckline. It is unlined and does not have much stretch to it, due to the nature of the double-knit fabric. The matching boatneck cap sleeve sweater, also unlined, is made of a slightly lighter weight double-knit wool that does have a tiny bit of stretch to it, as shown in my measurements. It pulls on over the head, with no fastenings. It has a finely ribbed section from waist to high hip, from just above the gray “belt” and bow to the hem. The sweater is designed to fit more closely to the body, fitted at the bust and waist, while the cardigan has a slightly boxy shape. The embroidered roses are done with multiple colors of pink and green wool yarn, and have tiny brown thorns. In excellent condition, freshly dry-cleaned and with no issues to note, this 1950s-early 60s sweater set is in excellent to mint condition. It would make a lovely gift for yourself or a loved one! I have paired the set with a pink and black windowpane check 80s-does-1950s wool pencil skirt, which is not included.

- Bust: 32 inches flat, up to 36 max.
- Waist: 28 inches flat, up to 32 max.
- Length: 19 inches from back of neck to hem.
- Underarm to hem: 10 inches.
CARDIGAN.
- Bust: 38 inches flat, to fit up to 36 a bit loosely.
- Width at hem or high hip: 32 inches flat, with the front edges just meeting. Will fit a bit larger if left open a bit at the center, as shown.
- Length: 20 inches from back of neck to hem.
- Sleeve length: 20 inches.
- Shoulder to shoulder: no seams.
