Description

A charcoal gray maternity skirt suit from the early 1960s, this 2-piece set features a flared, button-front tailored jacket and a pencil skirt with an adjustable waist. The heather gray fabric is a twill weave blend, probably rayon and acrylic, that feels like crisp, lightweight wool, but definitely isn’t. The A-line, hip-length jacket has bust darts and interesting diagonal seaming at the waist, with slit pockets inserted into it. The narrow sleeves are elbow-length, for 3-season wear (not for winter, unless you want to wear a long-sleeve blouse or tee underneath it). The portrait collar sits above a 3-button front opening. The top covered button was missing, so I have replaced with with a period-appropriate button that I think looks pretty. You could easily replace all the buttons if you prefer them to match. The pencil skirt has a U-shaped front opening and an adjustable waistband strap with buttons, to accommodate various sizes throughout pregnancy. The curvy skirt has an hourglass fit from hips to hem, narrowing at the hem with a kick pleat in back. The skirt is half-lined in back only with black acetate taffeta. In excellent condition, this elegant 1960s maternity skirt suit has no issues to note other than the replacement button. It can be dressed up or down easily, with a change of accessories!
