Description
This late 1940s skirt suit in dove gray and black wool is generously and fabulously trimmed with bright silver metal studs! The boxy, somewhat swingy high-hip-length jacket features metal studs in 2 sizes: larger, smooth round studs and smaller, fluted or grooved studs. The studs are spaced about 1 inch apart from the wide, square shoulders (with large shoulder pads) down to about waist height. Below the waist to the hem, the shiny studs are more densely packed. The jacket has long, straight sleeves and fastens at the high, round neckline with a single covered button. Small pleats at the front of the shoulders add a bit of fullness to the bust area. The jacket is lined with black rayon satin. The matching black skirt is unlined. It has a side seam metal zipper and a single button at the fitted waistband. Darts below the waistband at the front and back of the skirt shape the hips. The skirt has had the hem let down to its longest possible length by the previous owner--possibly in the early 1950s, when fashionable skirt lengths were longer than in the 1940s. Both the skirt and the jacket are made of twill weave wool of the same medium weight and texture, in 2 different colors. In very good condition, freshly dry-cleaned and ready to wear, the suit has a few small moth munches in the jacket: 2 very tiny, pinhole-sized nips (1 at the back of each upper sleeve/shoulder), and 1 larger munch at the back of the left elbow (see close-up photo). The jacket also has some overall minor color fade, varying from a cooler gray tone to a more pinkish-gray than it was originally (it was hard to capture this exact color, but I have done my best!). This is color variation is much more noticeable under my bright photo lighting than it will be in person. The skirt is in excellent condition, with no flaws to note. The 2 pieces of this true vintage, studded 1940s skirt suit can of course be worn as separates too, for added wardrobe options!

- Bust: 41 inches flat with a bit of extra room at bust pleats, to fit somewhat loosely for 37-39 inches.
- Length: 23.5 inches form back of neck to hem.
- Underarm to hem: 13.5 inches.
- Sleeve length: 23 inches.
- Shoulder to shoulder: 16 inches (large shoulder pads).
SKIRT.
- Waist: 29 inches flat to fit up to 28.5 inches max.
- Hip: 41 inches flat, to fit up to 38.5 inches or smaller.
- Length: 29 inches.
