Description

A fabulous (vintage) way to get your fruits and veggies! This late 1950s or early 1960s black lambswool cardigan sweater is embroidered with 3-dimensional produce, including bananas, grapes, strawberries, cherries, chili peppers, and what looks like a mini pumpkin! I’m not sure how accurately depicted these all are to real fruits and vegetables, but they are certainly cute! The cardigan has a slightly boxy fit, with bracelet-length sleeves, a round neckline, and small metal hooks and eyes fastening it in front, as well as at the small hem side slits. The hem will sit at about the low waist or high hip, depending on your height. Beautiful black and bright red silk satin trim finishes the neck, front opening, hem, and sleeve cuffs. The original silk lining of the sweater was removed, since it was badly damaged. I have hand stitched down all of the edges of the silk trim inside the sweater after its removal—that was a lot of stitching! Other than 1 loose thread in the bananas (see close-up photo), this true vintage 1960s black wool cardigan with novelty embroidery has no other issues to note. It is freshly dry-cleaned, sturdy and ready to wear. Harvest time never looked so chic!
