Description

A late 1940s skirt suit in cranberry red wool gabardine, this true vintage beauty features round, functional patch pockets on its hip-length jacket! Other jacket details include large shoulder pads, rounded notched lapels, slightly tapered sleeves, and curved seaming to shape the bust and waist. Red plastic buttons fasten the jacket in front, while smaller, matching buttons trim the round pockets. The mid-calf-length pencil skirt has a fitted waistband, with small darts below it to shape the hip area. The skirt fastens with a metal side seam zipper and single button at the waistband. The skirt is unlined. The jacket is lined in dark mauve rayon taffeta, with some very slight fading at the back of the neck (not seen when worn--on lining only) and a few tiny chips at the edges of the plastic buttons. There is also one careful mend to the slit at the center front skirt hem (see close-up photo). In very good condition with no other issues to note, the 2 pieces of this lovely red gabardine 1940s suit can of course also be worn separately, for even more wardrobe options!
