Description
A ready-to-wear line by famed American milliner Lilly Daché, Dachettes was launched in the 1950s. This late 1950s or early 1960s Dachettes sun hat in chestnut and cream striped straw features a tall, tapering crown with an indentation blocked into its rounded top. The lower section of the hat is domed to frame the face, with a fishnet scarf in matching chestnut-mocha nylon draped around it and fastened to the brim in front with a large faux pearl hatpin. This scarf is tied into a bow in back. It could be removed, if you prefer to go without its chin-length veiling. Inside the tall, bucket-shaped crown, the hat has an inner band of straw that is only partially sewn down, to hug the head more tightly than the rest of the hat, and help keep it in place. This dramatic hat is designed to sit up high on the head as shown, with only this inner band fully resting on the head, inside. A marvelous mid-century creation by Lilly Daché, this unusual 1950s-60s straw hat is in near excellent condition, with no flaws to note other than a bit of discoloration to the fabric of the label.
