Description

This 2-piece 70s novelty print rayon dress with bunches of red cherries on a black background is a great example of the 1940s influence on fashion of the era. The wrap-front blouse creates the look of a peplum when cinched at the waist by the included, black ultrasuede sash belt. It features notched lapels, very small, nearly flat shoulder pads, short cuffed sleeves and a straight hem. The matching skirt has a fitted waistband, with small gathers below it to add a bit of fullness to the shape at the hips. An asymmetrical vertical seam and a pleat at the left-front hem follow the line of the blouse overlap, to give the illusion of a similarly wrapped skirt. Both pieces of the set are unlined, soft plain weave rayon. The blouse has no fastening other than the belt. The skirt has a button and nylon zipper at its center back. It also has 2 side seam pockets at the hips—hooray! Other than a tiny bit of wear to the surface of the faux suede belt where it has been tied by the previous owner, the set has no issues to note, and it is in excellent condition. You could of course use your own belt in red or black patent, or whatever you choose, if you prefer a belt with a buckle to the sash belt included. The bunches of cream and orange-red maraschino cherries look good enough to eat, on this charming 1970s-does-1940s-style novelty print dress set!
