Description

The designer Diane Freis is best known for creating feminine, comfortable dresses in bold and colorful print fabrics, like this one! This 2-piece 80s dress set consists of a sweater-knit top and a full skirt. The blouson-fit sweater has medium-sized shoulder pads, and elbow-length, puffed sleeves made of lightweight, polyester georgette, to match the skirt. There are small bows trimming the shoulders. The body of the sweater is made of a soft rayon and cotton blend in lilac and purple, with an intarsia design of butterflies and satin-stitch floral embroidery. Striped bands of knit finish the fitted sleeve cuffs and hem. The skirt has a scalloped hip yoke (similar to that used on late 1920s or early 1930s dresses) above the inverted pleats that add fullness from hip to hem. The bright purple, pink, and aqua floral print georgette fabric of the skirt and sleeves also features bands of a Greek key pattern. The black elastic skirt waistband is a replacement by the original owner; the skirt would originally have had gathered self-fabric waist. The sweater and skirt both pull on, with no zipper or other fastenings, and are unlined. In very good condition, the only thing to note about the set is that the elastic waistband is larger than the waist of the sweater, stretched from normal wear, although it still has some give in it (see measurements). Wear each piece of this fabulous 1980s Diane Freis set separately, or wear them together for maximum visual impact!

  • Back of neck to waistband: 18.5 inches to top and 22 inches to bottom.
  • Underarm to hem: 11 inches to top of waistband and 14 inches to bottom.
  • Sleeve length: 15 inches.
  • Sleeve opening at elbow: 8 inches flat and 11 max.
  • Shoulder to shoulder: 13.5-15.5 inches.

SKIRT

  • Waist: 32 inches unstretched, up to 36 max.
  • Hip: 45 inches flat at hip yoke, loose fit for 42 or smaller.
  • Length: 34 inches.
