Description

This sequin-trimmed black felt early 1940s tilt pillbox hat features a double ring in black felt, to hug the back of the head and keep it in place when worn. The front and sides of the flat-topped pillbox crown is covered with rows of shiny black plastic sequins. The back left loop is adorned with 2 small grosgrain ribbon bows. The hat is labeled as a “New York Creation”. According to the ever-useful Vintage Fashion Guild Label Resource: “The New York Dress Institute was formed in 1941 as a joint venture between the clothing manufacturers of New York City and the ILGWU. Under the leadership of fashion publicist Eleanor Lambert, its purpose was to advance the sales of dresses and clothing made in New York by promoting the city as the fashion center of the country. The New York Creation label was used to identify the products of members.” This swing-era 1940s tilt hat is in excellent condition, with no issues to note. It would look lovely paired with a skirt suit or cocktail dress!
