Description

This groovy polished cotton novelty print maxi dress from the late 1960s or early 70s has an Asian-inspired scenic print of architectural elements, lanterns, trees and flowers, and human figures, some of whom appear to be gardening. The bold colors include coral or salmon, pale blue, orange, tan, yellow and black, with a few accents of screen-printed dark gold metallic scattered here and there in the design. The columnar dress has a straight from silhouette from bust to waist, and then flares out just a bit from waist to hem. The sleeveless bodice has diagonal bust darts and a small stand collar with a single golden yellow satin cord frog button, above the deep keyhole neckline opening. This center neckline slit is matched by a high slit at the center front hem. The lightweight polished cotton print fabric is fully lined with white cotton blend muslin, which you can see peeping out a bit at the neck and hem slits. With no fastenings other than the frog button at the collar, the dress is designed to have a relatively loose fit, and must pull on over the head. This sleeveless novelty print 60s or early 70s caftan style maxi dress is in very good condition, with one tiny mark on the lining at the back of the neck as its only issue (see close-up lining photo).
