Description
This angelic beauty is a maxi dress (or fancy nightgown) assembled in the 1970s by combining antique lace and modern (70s-era) cotton gauze. The empire-waist silhouette features creamy crocheted cotton lace on its upper bodice and short sleeves. Below the upper half of the bust, semi-sheer, lightweight crinkled cotton gauze is gently gathered for a bit of fullness, then falls more-or-less straight to ankle length. A tiny drawstring threaded through the lace can be used to gather the wide, square neckline. My best guess is that the lace trim is from around the Edwardian era (1900s-1910s), but it quite sturdy after over 100 years! I hand-washed this dress with no problems. The dress has no fastenings other than the neckline drawstring, and it is unlined. This 70s meets Edwardian, off-white maxi dress is in very good, completely wearable condition. It has one tiny mark on the bodice lace and one area on the lower edge of the left sleeve hem that is slightly discolored—see close-up photos. I am estimating that it will fit best for an XS to S based on the bust measurement. The rest of the dress should be loose fitting when worn--like a muumuu, but more elegant!
