Description
The designer Diane Freis is best known for creating feminine, comfortable dresses in bold and colorful print fabrics, like this one! This 80s 2-piece dress set consists of a top and full skirt in an amazing houndstooth / torn paper / collage print in purple, red, pink, teal, and aqua, combined with purple and black polka dots and inset stripes and zig-zags of plain black. It is the embodiment of totally wacky 80s New Wave! The blouson-fit top has large shoulder pads, and elbow-length, puffed sleeves with elastic hems. Above a V-neckline, the mandarin collar is closed with a Freis signature, a tasseled and beaded tie. The top’s hem is a fitted band of plain black at about the high hip, fastened with 2 buttons at the side opening. The skirt has a small hip yoke and gently flares out from high hip to hem. The black elastic skirt waistband on the skirt is a replacement by the original owner; the skirt would originally have had gathered self-fabric waist. The blouse and skirt both pull on, and are unlined. The shiny, lightweight fabric is a Diane Freis signature also: easy-care polyester georgette, in this case, with a subtle crepe texture. In very good condition, the only thing to note about the set is that the replacement elastic waistband may be stretched a bit larger than it would have been originally. It still has plenty of give in it (see skirt waist measurement). The proportionally smallest measurement for the set is at the blouse waistband, which will fall to just below your natural waist, over the waist of the skirt. This insanely fun houndstooth print 80s Diane Freis set will make quite a statement when both pieces are worn together, although you could certainly mix them with basic black to tone down the pattern party!
