Description
This absolutely darling 1960s hat or fascinator by Sally Victor features a cream straw mini-beehive crown above a leaf green, eye-length veil embellished with pretty off-white flowers and a moss green velvet bow. The rayon velvet ribbon bow sits at the front of the hat with its ends draped down to frame the face, trimmed with a single flower at its center. The fine, soft net veil is left untrimmed in front (so the wearer can see where they are going!), while the back and sides are trimmed with the lightweight flowers. This somewhat wacky and very sweet little 1960s hat was designed to sit up high on the head, over the bouffant or beehive hairdos popular at the time. I think it would make a fabulous bridal headpiece, for a bride with a sense of humor and fun style! In very good condition, the hat has 2 quite minor issues: a few of the flower petals are flattened a bit from storage, and the glue used to affix the hat’s label to the veiling under the straw crown has yellowed (not seen when worn). I have seen a few other examples of Sally Victor hats using this mini-beehive design, in other fabrics and colors. I believe this style dates to the mid-1960s, just before she closed her millinery business.
