Description

This late 1950s or early 1960s sundress in black cotton piqué is a true classic midcentury style, and the perfect base for fun accessories! The fitted bodice features a curved neckline that extends halfway up to the shoulders, with skinny straps above. Vertical seaming creates the hourglass fit from the bust to the waist seam, which is finished with self-fabric piping. Small pleats from waist to hem add fullness to the skirt (shown here with a fluffy crinoline underneath, which is not included). The skirt has been hemmed up by the previous owner, but does not appear to have any significant fading at the fold line, if you’d prefer to let down the hem back to its original longer length. The dress fastens in back with a metal zipper. The bodice section only is lined with plain weave black cotton. This versatile 1950s or 60s black dress is in excellent, near mint condition, with no fading to the deep black cotton fabric. My last photo shows the dress unpinned from the mannequin, to give a better idea of its actual size.
