Description
This sweet little novelty brooch from the late 1930s is made of tooled leather. Featuring 2 dangling charms, a diary and a roller skate, the pin would have been worn by a 30s teen girl. Possibly she was a student from the class of 1939, based on the date stamped on the spine of the diary. The pin has a bar-shaped top where the pinback is attached. The roller skate and the diary charms hang from it on flat cord with a waxed red finish, some of which is worn off. The base of the pinback has some verdigris on it, which will not be seen when the pin is worn. (I have re-cleaned the metal since these photos were taken, and it improved by about half.) The original owner’s name (Anderson, I think) is faintly visible, written on the back of the skate. The tooled leather bar and 2 charms look pretty great, with only minor signs of their age. In good, wearable condition, this swing-era, cutie-pie leather novelty brooch will be a nice addition to your collection of vintage costume jewelry, or the perfect gift to commemorate a loved one from the class of 1939!
